goodbye ~
said
the sky
when
we left Majorca on a plane
and saw the day wane...

that was yesterday.
life soft like a cloud, the sky a canvas for natural art. but this
feeling of paradise didn't last long. back home, the tv greeted
us with the pictures of the prisoners in Iraq. welcome back to reality.
welcome back to cruel world.
the pain beheld
in those pictures, i couldn't take it. i tried still the pictures
wouldn't leave me. i just can't get them out of my mind.
and then the
president of the Land of Liberty, standing there. and not having
the courage to say sorry. not able to come up with even a half sentence
that acknowledges that there was injustice done, or a word that
says this will have consequence. not taking responsibility, just
saying "I didn't like any of these pictures. Not a bit."
maybe that
was the worst, this total lack of giving any valid statement, after
claiming for months that the US is acting out of responsibility
to the world to bring "justice for all"... as if the face
of war could be anything but an ugly face.
and all the
other politicians of all other involved countries, all those that
always come up with statements so quickly that it makes you wonder
who gets all those words assembled.. the same. silence over this.
and you hope the reason would be a real loss of words, that they
all sit somewhere, staring holes into walls, feeling with those
who got abused, feeling their pain for a moment, a red river in
a black sky of agony

and you are
afraid that they are all busy trying to check if there are more
photos, photos that might show that soldiers of their country were
involved in the cruelty, too.
and the pictures..
the irony of it. that they were taken out of a feeling of heroism.
war souvenirs to bring back home. soldiers posing over their enemy.
and the press choosing to ignore them out of a feeling of patriotism
- which was so deep that the moment it was clear another newsmagazin
would bring the story, they went headlines with it themselves. not
for the sake of justice or investigative journalism. but for the
sake of quota.
this is painful.
