Varanasi.. that is where i still am, enjoying the last week of my trip, wishing i could stay longer, wishing there was a way to capture the magical sunrise at the Ganges in words or pictures and bring it back home with me

Varanasi.. that is a place where you can spend your days
just wandering along the riverside, passing all those stone stairways that lead down to the water.

they are called Ghats, and that is where people go to bathe, to sit and drink tea, to meditate, to do laundy, to play cricket, to sell postcards, to pray, to be...

Varanasi.. that is where a holy ceremony is celebrated at dusk at the main Ghat each and every day, it's five priests praying and chanting and moving flames in the air, and at the end of the ceremony people go down to the Ganges and hand down petals in the water, and little flower boats that carry a candle and a wish and they float down into the dusk with the waves...

Varanasi.. that is also the city where a lot of holy men go to live, and go to die. "And when they die, they leave a part of their energy there"... that is what my yoga teacher said to me as we talked about the special atmosphere that embraces life here in this amazing maze of streets
